Mexican oregano, sometimes called, Mexican Marjoram, or Rosemary mint, is the dried leaves of Lippia graveolens, a plant native to Mexico. This tasty herb is a staple of Latin American cooking and differs from Mediterranean oregano in its pungent citrus notes. Mexican oregano is a bit stronger, less bitter and less minty than the Greek species. This variety of dried oregano comes from the Verbena family is widely used in Southwestern and Mexican cooking, and is a staple ingredient in chili powders.
